Everything that's going on in Russia is making me so fucking mad! People are being beaten, raped, bullied, discriminated etc. because of their sexual orientation / - identity and the police just turns their back at it. It's like Hitler's Nazi-Germany all over again, but this time instead of Jews it's the sexual minorities.
Just earlier this summer Putin and his government passed a law that makes "gay propaganda" illegal, also banning Pride-festivals for 100 years. What?
And if that isn't enough, Russia is the country that is hosting the up-coming winter olympics! How awesome is that, getting sportsmen and women from all over the world to Sochi, a city in Russia, a country, where the athletes of the lgbtq-community have to afraid of getting beaten up while in the Olympic village.
And then we have the all-female punkband Pussy Riot. Two out of three imprisoned members are still in jail with 11 whole months left. In July the court denied them from getting parole (again) and the two members are currently living in in-humane conditions, one of them in a labour camp.
17th of August marks the anniversary of their verdict and that is why freepussyriot.org is organizing a day of solidarity! Please take part on that day to show your support in the world's struggle to fight the increasing oppression of freedom of speech and expression, discrimination against artists & musicians, and repression of Feminist movement in Russia!
